Faith, Saints

How not to waste your life

Lord, take possession of us; we give our whole will to you; make us understand what it is that you desire of us, and we will perform it.
~~~ St Alphonsus Maria of Liguori
The patron saint of vocations in the Church is also a model of listening to God to learn how to use one’s talents. Alphonsus had a doctorate in law by the age of 16, played the harpsichord, and loved opera. He declined an arranged marriage, and entered religious life, founding the Redemptorist order in the early 1730s. He was made a bishop, and wrote and preached extensively. He vowed never to waste a day in his life which lasted 90 years.
